We often get asked versions of: How does Dev List work?

To answer those questions, here's a quick behind the scenes tour of Dev List.

How we collect jobs

Our job listings come primarily from 3 sources:

1. Companies reaching out to us with new openings to send to our users.

2. New postings on a company career page.

3. Leading job boards like Linkedin, Glassdoor, Indeed, SimplyHired etc.

Since most jobs appear on multiple platforms, our software ignores duplicates to make sure we’re not double counting.

We’ve also found there are a lot of spam listings out there - most likely posted for data collection - so we built in house software to identify these and filter them out.

How we catalog the data

Every job is cataloged with 15+ key data points. So far we're nearing a million data points collected! 🥳

This process helps us identify trends and send you opportunities tailored to your skills.

Here are some of the data points we collect:

  • Pay range - how much companies are willing to pay
  • Employment type - fulltime or contract
  • Experience level - Junior (0-2 years), Intermediate (3-10 years), Expert (10+)
  • Skills required - specific software skills employers are looking for
  • Job type - categories like:
    • Frontend (Web, React, Vue, etc)
    • Backend (Java, Python, SQL, .NET, C++, etc)
    • Fullstack (Frontend + Backend)
    • DevOps/SRE (Infrasturcutre, DevOps, SRE, Site Reliability, etc)
    • Security/Networking (IAM, security devs, networking devs, etc)
    • AI/ML (NLP, Machine Learning, AI, LLM, etc)
    • Blockchain (Web3, Ethereum, Bitcoin, etc)
    • Mobile (iOS, Android, Flutter, etc)
    • QA/SDET (Testing, Automation, QA, etc)
    • Embedded (Linux, Kernel, hardware development, etc)
    • Data (Data science, data engineering, etc)
  • Remote - if the job is remote
  • Location requirements - if there are any country requirements
  • Posted date - when the job went live

The tools behind Dev List

We use a combination of in-house software, AI, and manual intervention to both collect and catalog job postings.

For the dev-heads, some of the software we use to keep the ship going are:

  • Render
  • Supabase
  • Plausible
  • Beehiiv

What we’ve achieved so far

  • 20,000+ job listings recorded since November 2024, and collecting hundreds to thousands of new ones per day.
  • Nearly a million data points 🚀 to better understand the job market.
  • Thousands of companies connected to our users for free.
  • Hundreds of hours saved per user in job searching.

We’ve had lots of users telling us how much they’ve enjoyed using Dev List, and that is what keeps us going. 😄
